Nightclubs are probably not the first places that come to mind when trying to plan the perfect office Christmas party. With a reputation for being dark, dingy, and arguably depressing places populated with dodgy, drunken people, a lot of people dismiss these venues based off of unfair or outdated preconceptions before doing the research, but they really shouldn’t.
Some of the UK’s finest nightclubs go all out to ensure an unforgettable, unique, and truly enchanting event every member of your team will simply cherish, and PRYZM, with locations all across the UK including Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, Kingston-upon-Thames, Nottingham and Brighton, is one of the best examples of such a place.
We spoke with Paul Stoneman from the Events & Sales team at PRYZM Bristol about what makes this venue so special and why PRYZM is perfectly suited to throwing an office Christmas party unlike any other in Bristol this winter.
What makes PRYZM the ideal office Christmas party venue for bookers this year?
We are perfectly set up for private parties from 5 people to 1000+ people, so any business or group can have a great time partying with us. We have 3 beautiful and very different rooms that can be hired privately, and because our core business is throwing a party, we know how to do it! We have state-of-the-art lighting and PA systems and can provide the best DJs in Bristol! And whereas most Christmas parties end at 11 o’clock and then everybody splits up and wanders aimlessly around town, with us, you have your private Christmas party, and when that finishes, you’re in an amazing nightclub, so everyone can continue to party the night away until 4am!!
What do you think the biggest misconception is about nightclubs as Christmas party venues?
The same as what I had before I started working here. Our motto is More Than A Nightclub, and that’s because people think that nightclubs aren’t set up for private functions, that they are grotty dark and dingy nightclubs, like the ones that I used to go to when I was a teenager in the 90s.
But we aren’t, our venue is beautiful, our cleaning team is the best in the business, and the things we can do are so flexible. The reaction I have had from businesses who have been in to see the venue with me is astounding, they are really shocked. We’ve had 2 big companies sign up for their 19/20 Christmas party already off the back of a tour and chat about what we can do, and we are more than competitive with all our packages.
What makes your venue stand out amongst the crowd?
Flexibility, entertainment, the best staff, and the fact that a party with us goes on all night!
What do nightclubs do better than your traditional Christmas party venue in a hotel or a restaurant for example?
I am not sure about your average nightclub, but the fact that we can host a 3-course meal, or a buffet, or canapes, and then a private dance floor, with a nightclub-worthy sound system, and we can cater for awards, presentations, entertainment, separate room for dining and partying, means that most venues can’t compete. If you have a 3-course sit down in a restaurant, you haven’t got a natural dance floor. Our lighting is amazing, it’s like a firework show. If a company’s colours are blue, we can theme it; if its red, green, yellow, whatever, we can theme it.
As throwing constant parties is what nightclubs are known for, do you think nightclubs understand what makes a fun and lively gathering better than your standard, arguably stuffy venue?
Absolutely. A lot of venues will hire in staff especially for an event, and they are not trained in the way the venue wants their staff to behave. Our staff are funny, friendly, and excellent at what they do. It makes for a far more fun experience, which is what a Christmas party is all about!
Nightclubs have a reputation for being just a place for 18-35 year olds who love a drink and a dance? What would you say to calm the fears of party bookers outside of this age range that are considering booking a Christmas party at your venue this year?
I guess on a typical Friday night that is a high proportion of our guests, but we have plenty of groups come in in their 40s, 50s, even in their 60s and above. Generally they love the Disco room!
But your Christmas party is your Christmas party. If you decide to join a club night, if there is one running afterwards, then that’s great, but the actual party is a private event, any 18-35-year-olds dancing and drinking will be at your Christmas party wherever you hold it!
What can your venue do to create a one-of-a-kind Christmas party tailored exclusively for companies this year?
We have already started planning with a couple of companies who have signed up for this year. One company are having blue colour throughout, including a round of 100 blue shots at 10pm, to match their company colours. Another we are talking about getting in a table magician (who is incredible!).
People don’t tend to associate good food with nightclubs? For all the foodies out there that think food is the best part of Christmas parties, what do they have to look forward to?
We have a 3-course sit down menu which is very Christmassy, as well as hot and cold buffet options. We know what we do well, and we know what other people do well. We do parties well. So we use an outside caterer (Kate’s Kitchen) for our meals. They are outstanding and the food is as good if not better than most restaurants.
