The festive menu includes traditional roast turkey with all the trimmings; slow-roast pork belly with cider sauce; nut roast with mushroom sauce; and pan-fried bream fillet with cannellini bean cassoulet and salsa verde. There is also a mouth-watering selection of desserts, including chocolate Guinness cake with Baileys ice cream and toffee sauce; and buttermilk panna cotta with orange Cointreau sauce.

Located just a stone’s throw from King Arthur’s famous Round Table, The Westgate is a cosy pub in the heart of Winchester with a fantastic lunch menu. The venue was recently refurbished and is now bright, stylish and inviting. The lunch menu is delicious and includes roasted English Rose turkey; pan-fried sea bass with saffron pearl-barley risotto, samphire and salsa verde; venison loin with swede, bacon, chestnut and cabbage, fondant potato and jus; and butternut squash, kale and blue-cheese pie with roasted carrots, sprouts and potatoes.
For a luxurious lunch, head to Hotel du Vin. This stunning Queen Anne-style hotel, which was the first Hotel du Vin to open in the UK, makes for a magnificent day out with colleagues. The lunch menu is available from 27 November and includes classic British favourites and French-style dishes. Starters include duck-liver parfait with plum and figgy chutney and hazelnut-crusted goat’s cheese crottin. Main courses include melt-in-the-mouth beef Bourguignon; free-range turkey ballotine; and cauliflower and Parmesan crumble.

This quirky, independent eatery is housed in a converted church and is a lively spot for a Christmas bite. The lunch menu includes slow-cooked beef brisket with creamed potatoes, roasted carrots and horseradish jus; oven-baked sole fillets with crushed new potatoes, green beans and dill butter; butternut and walnut tart with hassleback potatoes, seasonal vegetables and tomato and basil sauce; and (of course) roast turkey. All the desserts are homemade – the mulled-wine poached pear with shortbread and winter berries should not be missed.
