Choosing a lunchtime venue for an outing with colleagues can be just as overwhelming as planning a big corporate party. To make it easier, here’s a round-up of our favourite eateries in the Thames Valley for some festive feasting
Unit 5A, Oracle Centre, Reading, Berkshire, RG1 2AG
This delightful brasserie bar, which is within easy reach of Reading’s popular Oracle shopping centre, has a delicious festive lunch menu. Main courses include roast breast of turkey with clementine, tarragon and fig stuffing (with all the trimmings, of course); slow-roast belly of pork with sage mash and red-wine gravy; and braised blade of beef with bubble and squeak, forestiere sauce and horseradish cream. Round off with a delectable dessert such as passion-fruit meringue pie or salted-caramel profiteroles.
Napier Road, Reading, RG1 8FR
Kings Meadow Swimming Pool, which first opened to the public in 1902 as a ladies swimming bath, is a Grade II listed site that has recently been refurbished – and its poolside restaurant is a unique spot for a Christmas lunch. The restaurant, which is just a short distance from Reading city centre, has magnificent views across the River Thames. The menu echoes that of the Lido’s award-winning sister restaurant in Bristol, with dishes influenced by Spain and the Middle East (cuisine is primarily cooked over a fire and in wood ovens).
Lime Avenue, Portsmouth Road, Camberley, Surrey, GU15 2BG
Looking for a venue to impress colleagues? This four-star hotel, set in beautifully manicured grounds, is a fantastic spot for a lunch outing. The stylish restaurant has two AA Rosettes and its traditional Christmas menu is sure to get mouths watering. Main courses include turkey wrapped in prosciutto filled with sage and onion stuffing with all the trimmings; roast fillet of hake with a cheddar and herb crust, and seasonal vegetables; and vegetable and ricotta tourte.
Boulters Lock Island, Maidenhead, Berkshire SL6 8PE
This riverside restaurant is bright, spacious and vibrant, and is suitable for an intimate Christmas lunch with the team or a large festive feast. As well as traditional free-range turkey, the lunch menu includes pan-fried sea bream; liquorice-poached local pork tenderloin; and roasted-garlic gnocchi with caramelised Jerusalem artichoke. There are a number of drinks offers available throughout December.
