What’s your role at Best Western and what does your day-to-day job involve?

My role is to deal with all the administration for the hotel, which includes working on the Christmas marketing. My job also involves organising function-room hire and large group bookings for the hotel. I frequently help out on reception too, especially when the hotel is busy with large bookings.

What does your role involve at Christmas?

I deal with Christmas booking enquiries, greeting the guests and taking deposits for Christmas meals. Christmas is such a wonderful time of the year and one of the busiest which means marketing Christmas is essential!

What are the biggest challenges you face during the Christmas period?

One of the biggest challenges is room dynamics, fitting everyone into their required space when it comes to functions. Due to the hotel having limited function-room space, if there are a large number of bookings then it becomes tricky to make sure everyone is satisfied.

What is your approach to managing this busy time?

We have 73 rooms in the hotel and we are full every night in December. We always ensure the team deals with situations promptly and that everything is run smoothly. Everyone, in all the different departments, pulls together to prepare for the busy schedule, and this ensures the best service is delivered. Planning is key during the Christmas period and it is essential for bookings to run nice and smoothly.

How does the hotel remain competitive at Christmas time?

We frequently check our prices against other competitors in Nottingham city centre. If our prices look too high, we amend them or vice versa. We offer great deals, especially for repeat guests, and give everybody VIP treatment so we are well remembered. We plan ahead and take note of what other hotels are doing as well as creating new offers to entice guests in.

What is Best Western offering for Christmas 2017?

We are offering exceptional Christmas day lunches with a completely new menu, which includes delicious starters and puddings to enjoy. We are offering affordable Christmas room rates as well, always providing an enjoyable festive atmosphere.

What advice would you give to people organising a Christmas party?

My advice is to stay calm, pre-plan everything and create checklists. Ensure all the food and drink orders are in place for the event taking place, too. It’s also important for staff at the venue to have a warm welcoming smile to spread the Christmas spirit and put guests at ease. Also make sure there is plenty of wine to pass round!

What’s the most interesting party that’s ever been hosted at the hotel?

We hosted a Black and White event and the menu was tailored around black and white ingredients; the dress code was black and white and there were various black and white-themed decorations to provide a unique vibe. Another interesting event was the 1970s-theme night. It was buzzing with amazing music and was a really fun atmosphere.

What are you looking forward to this Christmas?

This is the first Christmas to be held here as a Best Western Plus and after our brand new refurbishment it is a chance to make a good impression and  deliver excellent service to the guests attending events or staying in the hotel. We are looking forward to a busy, entertaining Christmas – ensuring it is one to remember.

What are your plans for the Best Western in 2018?

Our plan is to spread the news that our hotel has gone through a transformation and been completely modernised. We want to raise our standards and deliver exceptional service in 2018. We also want to continue building our connections with the lovely guests and the regulars who choose to stay or visit us.
