Advertorial: A very British Christmas

The Clifton Sausage has been a Bristol institution since 2002

In that time, it has built up a stellar reputation for serving delicious dishes made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients

Following on from the success of their Bristol restaurant, husband-and-wife team Simon and Joy Quarrie have opened a second eatery in beautiful and historic Bath, just around the corner from the popular shopping hotspot Milsom Street.

When it comes to Christmas parties, nobody does it better than The Clifton Sausage. With more than 15 years’ experience catering for groups of all shapes and sizes, visitors can rest assured they are in safe hands.

Both restaurants offer something very special. The aptly named Bristol restaurant is right in the heart of Clifton Village, with its bustling independent pubs and cocktail bars. It’s the perfect place to start and finish an office Christmas party, festive family get-together or a good old-fashioned shindig with friends.

The venue is furnished with rustic pine tables, pillar candles and an impressive stone floor. During December there are classic Christmas wreaths, garlands and fairy lights draped across the warm yellow and sky-blue walls, winning over even the biggest Scrooge with its festive spirit.

The Bath site is a stunning building split over two levels. Downstairs is a converted cellar with arched-stone ceilings and a chef’s table, which is perfect for people who like to experience the hustle and bustle of a busy kitchen. The beautifully renovated, bright and spacious dining room can be found just beyond the chef’s table, down a few stylish slate steps.

On the first floor of the Bath venue, you’ll find an extensive bar area where guests can treat themselves to a yummy cocktail while waiting for their party to arrive (or simply pull up a seat and enjoy the festive mood). The bar leads through to a glass conservatory, which has a real sense of romance. There is a beautiful chandelier, and large patio doors that open onto an outside terrace. It boasts some of the most stunning views of Bath and the surrounding countryside.

When it comes to the Christmas party menu, The Clifton Sausage has stayed true to its roots of classic British dishes, cooked perfectly. For starters, choose between parsnip, fennel and ginger soup; Cornish smoked mackerel pâté; Old Spot pork and chorizo terrine; or a scrumptious smoked Godminster Cheddar soufflé.

The main options include classic roast Somerset turkey; confit of English duck; pan-fried Cornish sea bream; and Wiltshire rib-eye steak. But what really stands out on this already impressive menu is the addition of reindeer and cranberry sausages, served with roast garlic and parsley mash, port and cranberry gravy, and parsnip crisps. What sort of restaurant would it be without an extra-special (and truly delicious) Christmas sausage?

These seasonal sausages are incredibly popular and are only available during December. They really are made from reindeer and are totally unique to The Clifton Sausage. So why not stop by the Bristol or Bath restaurant and give them a try? Just don’t tell Rudolph!
